Courthouse
Boulder County or Weld County District Court
Erie straddles the Boulder and Weld county line, and the Census Bureau counts 25,509 of its 40,904 residents on the Weld County side. An Erie personal injury lawsuit is filed in the district court for the county where the case belongs: the Boulder County District Court, the 20th Judicial District, at the Boulder County Combined Court, 1777 6th St., Boulder, CO 80302, which also keeps a Longmont location at 1035 Kimbark Street; or the Weld County District Court, the 19th Judicial District, which handles its court business at the Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10th Street, Greeley, CO 80631. Local civil procedure differs from county to county, and the judges and opposing counsel either know your firm or they do not. We handle these cases directly.
Trauma Care
Good Samaritan Hospital and the Longmont hospitals
Erie has no designated trauma center of its own; the Emergency and Urgent Care Indian Peaks facility on Highway 52 in Frederick is listed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as non-designated. After a serious bus crash, the critically injured are usually taken to the nearest Level II center, Intermountain Health Good Samaritan Hospital at 200 Exempla Circle in Lafayette, or to a Level III center such as AdventHealth Avista in Louisville, Longs Peak Hospital or Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, or St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster; the nearest Level I centers are Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Denver Health, and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, with Children's Hospital Colorado for injured children. Those records become the backbone of your damages claim.
High-Risk Roads
Erie Parkway, County Line Road, CO 7, CO 52, US 287, and I-25
Bus routes share the town's busiest corridors. RTD's JUMP is the only fixed route inside Erie, with 15 stops along Arapahoe Road, Erie Parkway, and 119th Street linking the Erie Community Center, Community Park, and library to Lafayette and downtown Boulder; the Town and RTD are rerouting it onto 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard with 20 new stops, with construction planned for 2026. The Town runs its own Day Trip Bus, the nonprofit Via Mobility Services carries seniors and residents with disabilities, and RTD's Access-a-Ride follows the JUMP. Erie is bordered by CO 52 to the north, I-25 to the east, CO 7 to the south, and US 287 to the west, all CDOT highways; inside town, County Line Road and Coal Creek Boulevard run north to south along the county line, and Erie Parkway is the main east-west road and the Town's primary access to US 287 and I-25. The Town's 2024 Transportation Mobility Plan, adopted December 10, 2024, found that from 2016 through 2021 the intersections with the highest crash counts were Weld County Road 7 and Erie Parkway, County Road 5 and Erie Parkway, and County Road 7 and Highway 52, and the corridors with the highest counts were Erie Parkway, County Road 7, and Highway 52. Where a crash happens can shift liability toward CDOT, the town, Boulder or Weld County, or a third-party driver.
Erie also carries hazards that bear on transit crashes. The Town says its population has nearly doubled over the last decade, and the Census Bureau counts 40,904 residents as of July 2025, up 36 percent from the 2020 base; the plan says the intersection of County Line Road and Erie Parkway, which had the highest number of crashes from 2016 through 2021, saw 65 percent traffic growth over the previous decade. On Erie Parkway, posted at 35 mph, 85 percent of drivers measured in the winter of 2022 to 2023 were traveling at up to 49 mph. Erie sits on the edge of RTD's district, so parts of the town on the Weld County side lie outside RTD's service area, and a fare-free CO 7 bus line between Boulder and Brighton and a Bustang mobility hub at I-25 and CO 7 were both in the works in 2026. Weld County's Safety Action Plan, adopted in October 2025, found that 8 in 10 fatal crashes in the county happen on roads posted at 55 mph or higher. Each of these facts can shape who is liable and what evidence matters.
