High-Crash Corridors
C-470, US-85, and I-25
Highlands Ranch is wrapped by three high-volume highways, and distraction turns each of them dangerous. C-470 (State Highway 470) runs along the northern edge of Highlands Ranch as a CDOT-maintained freeway connecting US-85 and I-25 in Lone Tree, generating rear-end and lane-change crashes during peak hours. US-85 (Santa Fe Drive, also South Broadway) runs along the western edge and meets C-470 at the southern terminus of the community, carrying heavy north-south commuter volume. I-25 runs just east through Lone Tree, where the Lincoln Avenue and RidgeGate Parkway interchange is a documented high-accident location. The Lucent Boulevard interchange anchors the Highlands Ranch Town Center and sees some of the heaviest merge and exit traffic on the corridor. A driver who can manage inattention on a quiet street cannot at these speeds.
