High-Crash Corridors
High-crash corridors: Wadsworth, Colfax, US 6, C-470, and Morrison Road
Lakewood's injury landscape runs along five major corridors, and distraction turns each of them dangerous. Wadsworth Boulevard (SH 121) is a documented fatal pedestrian crash location, with CDOT running an active interchange reconstruction at US 6 and Wadsworth. West Colfax Avenue (US 40) carries heavy traffic and shares the road with pedestrians and cyclists. The 6th Avenue Freeway (US 6) connects Lakewood to downtown Denver and to I-70. C-470 forms Lakewood's southwestern border and carries high-speed regional traffic. Morrison Road (SH 8) runs through the southern reaches of the city. A driver who can manage inattention on a quiet road cannot at these speeds and volumes.
